Facebook Celebrate Pride Tool
The Supreme Court have just declared Same-Sex Marriage legal in all 50 states.
To celebrate the victory about equality, Facebook have just launched a new tool that allows user to auto generate a striped and colorful Profile Picture that they can use on their Facebook profiles.
Facebook is calling the app “Celebrate Pride”. The whole process is intuitive and requires 1-2 clicks only. User only needs to go to http://www.facebook.com/celebratepride and click on the button that says “Use as Profile Picture” and your profile photo will be automatically changed in an instant.

Facebook New Suicide Prevention Tool

Facebook New Suicide Prevention Tool
Facebook has added a new Suicide Prevention Tool which aims to help users flag suicidal content. The tool passes the information onto the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline as well as a trained team with more resources to help Facebook users who may be at risk. This is one the most helpful features and UI that I’ve seen on Facebook. It’s really wonderful to see that Facebook is trying to show concern about their users. It’s absolutely true that if even one person is saved by this UI, then all of the effort put into building it is worth it.

What do you think of it? Do you find it useful too? Let us know in the comments section below

Fed – How social are you this year?
Just for fun, I coded a yearly visualization of how active I am on posting on the different social media sites, namely Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google Plus which I’m not too active (hope I can be active in here within the coming year). It uses the different APIs that each sites offers.
My code for LinkedIn API isn’t working at the moment, but I’ll add that in later.
Check it out :)

Facebook’s Graph Search

in Facebook / No Comments

This is the new Facebook Graph Search that Facebook have recently released for a few beta users who signed up in the waiting list in Facebook’s website. This is a close invitation preview and is currently available to a limited number of users. Facebook Graph Search provides an enhanced searching mode for finding people, places, photos and other things related to you and your friends/network.

If you click on the new search box above on the header a popup sub menu opens up. You are given a list of suggested search like Photos of my friendRestaurants nearbyGames my friends playMusic my friends like, Photos I have liked. Clicking on it will show up a Grid layout of different matches found on your search query.

You’ll also find a floating sidebar search filter in your search result page to further refine your searches.
The Refine this search box allows you to filter by the following:

  • Filter by whoever is the owner of photos
  • The people tagged in the photos
  • Location of places of the photos
  • Date taken of the photo
  • Filterting by the people who commented on the photo
  • Filterting by the people who liked the photo
  • Who reshared which photos

I personally like the UI but I know of some people who wouldn’t like the change that the Facebook logo is moved to right with a Home text link. The logo of Facebook is now so small now and it will take some time to move the mouse cursor to the far left.

What do you think of the new UI for this Facebook Graph Search? Let us know what you think in the comment box below.
